The June 15th episode of Fox's "The Inside" has met instigated complaints from some political groups. The episode was NOT INDECENT by my community's standards. I believe that neither was it indecent by the standards set forth by the Commission. In order to be considered indecent, a broadcast must "describe or depict sexual or excretory organs or activities." A review of the form letter complaint being sent to you by the Parents Television Council shows that content considered offensive by that group does not meet the above criteria for indecency. In fact, the content about which they are complaining either a) happened off-screen, or b) was merely implied. The FCC has no jurisdiction over the conclusions viewers draw about off-screen events. There is no doubt that members of the Parents Television Council are likely to find the content of "The Inside" distasteful, but the Fox network likely did not have them in mind when they created the program. The Fox network should not be subject to sanctions simply because one politically motivated organization dislikes one of its shows. The complaints filed by the Parents Television Council against "The Inside" are nothing but political posturing. The complaint has no merit. The broadcast in question was NOT INDECENT by Federal Communications Commission standards. Please deny the complaints against Fox's June 15th broadcast of "The Inside."
