New Frontrunner for Open FCC Seat
Broadcasting & Cable reports that Christine Kurth, a staff member of the Senate Commerce Committee, is the leading candidate for the FCC seat left open when Michael Powell abdicated and Kevin Martin ascended.
The Senate Commerce Committee is chaired by Ted Stevens, the Alaska senator who started the push for cable and satellite indecency regulation. Stevens is said to be lobbying for Kurth’s nomination.
If Kurth were to be the chosen one, the Commerce Committee, as her former employer, would be voting on her nomination.
